Undoubtedly the best Valiant 40 we’ve come across in this part of the world, 36 Degrees are please to present “Chanticleer” to the market.

This cutter rigged monohull has been incredibly well maintained by fastidious owners, who are moving back to the USA.

Designer Bob Perry is world renown for building extremely strong, comfortable seaworthy boats and this boat is no exception. This design was considered revolutionary in its time, bringing aspects of racing design into open ocean cruising yachts. The Valiant 40 is credited with birthing the category of ‘performance cruisers’.

This boat is easy to handle at sea, with a permanently attached stay sail, main slab reefing, and a stack pack. The sail wardrobe was updated 2017/18. She is beautifully set up for offshore sailing with lots of spares, AIS, iridium go, SSB & VHF radio. A well-appointed navigation station puts all controls within an arm’s reach for easy passaging, and it wouldn’t take much to get her up to Category One Safety requirements for a New Zealand buyer.

This boat is a fantastic mix of character meets practicality, with pops of varnished timber for that beautiful classic look, without being too much to maintain. A fully fiberglass deck means low maintenance for Southern Hemisphere conditions.

Down below there is a stunning teak interior with a functional layout consisting of an aft  master cabin with a double berth, and a forward berth that can comprise either two singles or one double. There is a well laid out galley with plenty of hand holds, saloon and nav table and acres of storage. There is excellent ventilation through numerous hatches and portlights, complete with mosquito screens for tropical cruising.

The scrupulous maintenance continues in the engine room, which is easily accessed via the large hatches.

This boat has a truly impressive maintenance record and an extensive list of upgrades. In 2018 Chanticleer underwent a major refit, which included:

-       New Mast & boom
-       New pulpit, stanchions & mast guards
-       Solar arch + panels
-       New standing & running rigging
-       New bimni & dodger
-       New furlers
-       New Furuno Radar
-       New SS Cabin Portholes
-       New Spectra Watermaker
-       New 12v refrigeration system
-       LED Lighting
-       All plastic thru hull fitting for deck + cockpit drains replaced with bronze
-       Carbon fibre Forespar whisker pole
-       New AGM Batteries

“Chanticleer” is immaculate, amazingly setup, and a fantastic example of meticulous seamanship. The bilges are clean and clear, with keel bolts in good condition. The hull is freshly antifouled and polished, turn-key ready for her next adventure.
