Another exciting FIRST by Beneteau

3 May 2022 | Beneteau

The First 44 is another exciting new addition to the First line of cruiser/ racers by Beneteau. This 44ft yacht is the link between the recently released First 36 and the First Yacht 53. Performance oriented, with quality equipment and fittings, and multiple rig options, the F44 is a yacht that will impress under sail. The powerful, well balanced hull shape, combined with the generous sail plan will deliver satisfaction to those who love the sensation of sailing.

“The objective with the entire FIRST 44 team was to refine the concept of Performance Cruiser, which isn’t an easy undertaking because the architecture of these boats rests on many contradictory requirements. We tried to find the correct balance between cruising comfort, performance, and safety, and we are quite satisfied with the final result. The new FIRST 44 shares the style and the elegance of the FIRST 53, and is similar in the organization of space and volumes; yet certain elements and characteristics of her design take her a step further in her quest for performance.” - Roberto Biscontini (naval architect)

The First 44 comes in two versions, the First 44 and First 44 Performance.

The F44 features a further aft mast and a fixed centreline block for the mainsheet system. The mast is shorter and made of aluminium, and the keel length comes in a shorter ‘shoal draft’ or the standard draft. This version also features a few more creature comforts, such as teak decks, a cockpit table and a different deck layout which includes 4 winches positioned close to the helm pedestals for ease of sailing shorthanded.   Fy4ma ext cruising top B.JPG 1900px

The F44 Performance is 500kg lighter, with a carbon mast that is 1.8m taller than the standard version. The 1.5m bowsprit and hydraulic adjustable backstay add a competitive edge, increasing the boats performance under sail. The performance T- keel draws 2.5m opposed to 2.15 in standard. The GRP decks have foam non-skid instead of teak, and a layout that features 6 winches and a traveller for the mainsheet. The Performance version also features twin 300L ballast tanks that can be electrically activated from the helm stations. This was developed from the technology used on the Beneteau Figaro 2 and enables the boat to be sailed effectively even with reduced crew.

In keeping with the rest of the boat the interior, designed by Lorenzo Argento, is modern and streamlined. The lacquered white surfaces interposed with moulded wood are simple yet elegant. The layout features 3 cabins and 2 heads, with a port aft galley. The salon table seats 6 and is positioned in social proximity to the nav station and additional seating.

Light and bright, with clean lines, space is accentuated with quality materials that overall give the cabin a feeling of comfort while retaining the simplicity of a cruiser/ racer.Fy4ma int D 0001.JPG 1900px
