40 Years of Beneteau Oceanis

27 July 2026 | 36 Degrees News

A New Generation Takes Shape

For four decades, Beneteau’s Oceanis range has helped define modern cruising. Across eight generations, Oceanis has carried families, couples and offshore sailors along coastlines and across oceans, earning a strong reputation for capable performance, practical design and comfort on board.

Since its introduction in 1986, the range has continued to evolve alongside the needs of its owners. Hull design, sail handling, interior layouts and onboard technology have advanced, but the central purpose has remained consistent: making cruising accessible, enjoyable and rewarding.

The 40th anniversary arrives at a significant point in the Oceanis story.

It coincides with the arrival of three new-generation models: the all new Oceanis 42, Oceanis 47 and Oceanis 52.
Together, these new releases signal the direction of the range’s eighth generation. Greater cockpit space, improved movement on deck, more adaptable configurations and a renewed focus on short-handed sailing reflect how today’s owners cruise.

The Oceanis 42 succeeds the popular Oceanis 40.1, introducing five layout options and many features first developed for the larger models. The Oceanis 47 launched the eighth generation, while the Oceanis 52 extends its design principles into a larger platform for longer-range cruising.

Each has its own purpose within the range, yet all three share a clear design direction. They are intended to be manageable under sail, comfortable for extended time aboard and adaptable to different owners, crews and cruising plans.

Forty years after the first Oceanis entered the water, the range continues to move forward without losing sight of what established its reputation. The Oceanis 42, 47 and 52 represent more than three new releases. They mark the beginning of the next chapter.
