This Koopmans 43 was built as a show off boat for the Maimi boat show. The idea was to showcase the reliability strength and beauty of Dutch yachts. Built in aluminium by the Mekon Shipyard in Lemmer, Netherlands to Dick Koopmans design #286
Sea otter has a 2 cabin 1 head layout. She has a lifting centerboard allowing for supershoal draft with the board up gaining you access to tropical atolls other yachts cannot enjoy and allowing you to travel up rivers or just be the closest boat to the beach. With her centerboard down she draws an impressive 7'4" which means she travels uphill at impressive angles.
She has been well loved and maintained over the years, with a washdown hose located aft of the vessel, and careful consideration to remove silt and mud from the anchor upon stowage, thus keeping the exterior meticulously clean and tidy.
Sporting a new engine in 2021 with super low engine hours of 931 at the time of writing.
Her Cutter rigged sail plan allows for fast reaching, gull wing with the 2 foresails in strong downwind legs or reefed main and staysail in case you encounter strong winds. (Sails new in 2018)
There is no teak decking to worry about, she has cork composite decking which is really nice on the feet whilst moving around on deck and keeps a very safe walkway in wet conditions.
- The electrical system on the boat is Really nice with a dedicated charging system for the bow thruster and windlass battery.
- Wind and solar power keeps her off-grid and there's even a Newport diesel heater for cold weather cruising.
- Simrad and B&G electronics wind speed and autopilot instruments (B&G were replaced 2021).
- The boat is well set up with ocean going safety gear and has an 8ft AB dinghy with an electric torquedo 603 outboard.
Sea Otter has sailed the Caribbean and the East Coast of the US and has made it to Panama and across the Pacific.
